It’s Friday. It’s September.

MUELLER HAS THE ROUGH DRAFT OF COMEY’S FIRING LETTERS

At some point in the last few months, Robert Mueller got his hands on the original rough draft of the letter used as justification to fire James Comey. The New York Times reported that the letter, written by Stephen Miller, included references to how Comey would not publicly exonerate him from being investigated. Lawyers said that this was “very problematic” for them. That’s legalese for completely fucked.

ANOTHER RUSSIAN MOTIVATION

As I’m writing this, Eric Garland is laying out one hell of a thread about another Russian motivation behind the election.

Money behind fossil fuels.

Russia’s GDP, which is roughly half of California’s, is based almost entirely on oil and other fossil fuels. They have nothing else. And we’re well past the point of saying fossil fuels don’t have an impact on climate change.

The future is clean energy. Wind, solar, nuclear, these are how we’ll produce electricity from here on out. Transportation is becoming electrified. Only an idiot, someone on the take, or both would push for more fossil fuels.

Enter Donald Trump.

The coal-loving, wind farm hating, climate change is a Chinese conspiracy, Donald Trump.

Look at all of the anti-environmental actions that Trump took after coming to power.

The CEO of Exxon is the Secretary of State.

The head of the EPA is a climate change denier and on the Koch Brothers payroll.

The head of the Energy Department is a fracker from Oklahoma.

The Education Department wants to strip science funding if schools teach climate change.

The Transportation Department wants to relax fuel mileage standards.

By pushing a pro-oil agenda in the United States, the Russians get about ten years of solid oil sales and a thriving economy. If the US goes clean, Russia is bankrupt.

That’s all for tonight, the phone is about to die.

Thank you, and have a good one.

Daily Check-In 8/31/2017

August is finally wrapping up. Big things are happening.

MUELLER INVESTIGATING TRUMP FOR OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE

This isn’t exactly news, but the Wall Street Journal released today that back in June, Trump’s legal team sent memos to Mueller’s team outlining why they don’t think Trump firing Comey was illegal. It was the standard argument from Trump. He’s the President, Comey’s a liar, look at my crowd sizes, etc. The first two were real, but I wouldn’t be surprised at the third.

So, what does this mean?

This means that, as of June, Robert Mueller was investigating Donald Trump for Obstruction of Justice.

This is big.

Why is it coming out today? Good question.

MANAFORT TOOK NOTES ABOUT RNC AND RUSSIAN MONEY

Remember in The Russian Hypothesis where I talked about the Republican National Committee working with the Russians on getting foreign money into the campaign in direct conflict with several U.S laws?

Well, guess who’s notes mentioned “donations” and “convention”?

Yep, Paul Manafort.

At the June 9 meeting.

In Trump Tower.

Weeks before the RNC convention in Cleveland.

I don’t want to say I was right, since I’m reporting others work. But this was rumored months ago. The fact that it’s hitting the mainstream now is big.

STATE DEPARTMENT CLOSES RUSSIAN OFFICES

In a limited response to earlier actions by Russia, the State Department closed three Russian offices in New York, Washington, and San Francisco.

PENCE HAVING DAILY CONTACT WITH PAUL MANAFORT DURING TRANSITION PERIOD

According to a report earlier that I’ll try to link to later, Mike Pence was Paul Manafort’s choice for VP, as well as having had daily contact with him throughout the transition period after the election, even though Paul was fired from the campaign in August.

MUELLER WORKING WITH THE IRS CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION TEAM

Sweet Baby Jesus! This just broke. Mueller working with the IRS is Trump’s worst nightmare. This deserves a greater write up soon, but the IRS CI working with FINCEN means someone is fucked 8 ways to Sunday.

ATTACKS ON TWITTER

A lot of the Resistance members are being attacked on Twitter. Hacking, doxxing, trolls botting up and brigading users to get them suspended, harassing family members. Shit’s heating up. Keep your head down and watch your six.

That’s all for tonight.

Have a good one.

The Russian Hypothesis, Version 0.1

One of the goals of this website is to try to make sense of all of the news swirling around. But sometimes, it gets easy to lose the forest for the trees. When a new bombshell story drops every few hours instead of weeks, and the President of the United States is a narcissistic megalomaniac with nearly no impulse control and a twitter account, it's easy to get lose track of where we are, how we got here, and where we're going.

This article, The Russian Hypothesis, lays out, from evidence gathered from multiple sources, the details of if, when, why, and how the Trump Campaign colluded and conspired with the Russians to steal the 2016 Presidential Election.

This will be an evolving document that takes into account new information as it comes along.

Remember, if a hypothesis does not fit the evidence, one must change the hypothesis.

Hypothesis: Elements of the Russian Government, under the leadership and authorization of Vladimir Putin, worked with fringe elements of the political spectrum, to destabilize the American democratic system, to sow chaos and mistrust in the United States, in a continuing effort to further Russian influence throughout the world. A large portion of this chaos would be to delegitimize the presumptive Democratic Nominee Hilary Clinton, and if possible, install a person beholden to him as the POTUS.

To this end, Putin leveraged Donald J. Trump into running for President. Trump, who was already compromised with financial, legal, and sexual kompromat, played the part of the Useful Idiot.

After assisting Trump through the Republican Primary, the Russians assisted Trump with destabilizing the campaign of HRC on multiple fronts, in exchange for a quid pro quo of rescinding the Magnitsky Act, which enforced strict sanctions on the Russian Oligarchy.

Some of these fronts included the timed release of stolen emails through their intermediary Julian Assange and Wikileaks, the encouragement of the Bernie or Bust crowd, coordinated media campaigns with Right Wing Media channels and sites such as Breitbart, InfoWars, and Fox News, and a concentrated social media campaign meant to target likely HRC voters, as well as exploiting relationships with personnel in certain American governmental and investigative positions, such as the New York FBI Field Office.

The largest parts of the Russian operation were the infiltration of the Republican National Committee with illegal money laundered from Russia, and a concentrated effort to compromise the election itself through hacking of the voter rolls and/or the voting machines.

The money laundering was coordinated between Russians acting for and on behalf of the Russian Government, the Trump Presidential Campaign, and senior members of the Republican National Committee.

The voter hacking and social media campaigns were micro targeted using information gained from Cambridge Analytica. By being able to identify likely HRC voters, and taking advantage of voter ID laws in several "swing states", votes were effectively suppressed by modifying the voter rolls so that they did not match the ID's of the people attempting to vote.

While the best case scenario for the Russians was the election of Donald Trump, it was not expected to happen. The likely plan for the post election period was for Trump to start a fringe Right Wing Media company, in partnership with Roger Ailes and Breitbart CEO Steve Bannon. This company would continue spreading a nationalistic message, while simultaneously attacking the HRC administration.

Instead, all of the operations combined to a synergistic result of a Donald Trump victory. It has yet to be determined whether this will be a long term victory for Russia or not. The election is already being referred to in some circles as a "Political Pearl Harbor."

Like I said, this is simply a hypothesis, a road map of what happened to lead to today. This will be updated over time, with supporting documentation, explanations of events, and articles detailing specific points.

I understand this whole thing sounds like a crazy conspiracy theory. The only things missing are jet fuel, the illuminati, and time traveling 12 foot tall norsemen.

Well, we are in crazy times.

None of this is Normal.

Horseshoe Theory

There is a theory in political science about how the spectrum isn't a straight line, but it is actually shaped like a horseshoe.

Wiki Link Here

The short version is that when we hear about the political spectrum, left and right wing, we normally think like it looks like this…

When in reality, it functions closer to this…

In this design, the ends are closer to each other than they are to the center.

So, why is this important? And why does it matter?

Because this helps explain how and why the Bernie or Bust crowd exists in the first place, and how they were exploited to Trump's benefit.

Let's rewind a bit and take a moment to talk about the Bernie or Bust crowd. Towards the end of the 2016 Primary season, HRC was fighting against Bernie Sanders for the Democratic Party nomination for President. Bernie had come out of left field, and had campaigned on a very progressive agenda which included universal health care, student loan forgiveness, free higher education, and comprehensive government reforms. He was doing a good job, but was losing. By May, it was pretty obvious that HRC would be the nominee, and that Bernie was fighting for a place at the table. HRC would pledge to adopt some of his policies, and Bernie would endorse her.

A group of Bernie Sanders voters were not happy. They viewed HRC as the enemy and refused to join her cause, no matter what. They pledged to do whatever they could to get Bernie elected President. They became the Bernie or Busters.

The Bernie or Bust crowd was not happy that HRC would win the nomination, and went apoplectic when DNC hack hit the news and it came out that the DNC preferred HRC to Bernie, and tried to help her win. (I'll put up a future post about how Trump vs. Bernie was Putin's wet dream.)

Over the next few months, as the election drew closer, most of the Bernie or Bust crowd dissipated as they examined their options. HRC, Trump, Gary Johnson, Jill Stein (more on her in the future), write in Bernie, or skip the election altogether. While most either held their noses to vote for HRC, or did a protest vote for one of the third parties, several of them jumped ship over to Trump. Some viewed this as an enemy of my enemy scenario, others espoused how his views aligned more with theirs.

Discrediting the trolls and operatives for a moment, that last sentence doesn't sound too crazy, if one takes Horseshoe Theory into account. It can be much easier to make a mental leap from one end of the spectrum to the other than to "sell out" and go to the center. The opposite positions can be seen as a reset: wipe the slate clean and start from scratch after it implodes. It's not that hard to hold positions on the extremes at the same time.

I should know. I used to be that guy.

Back in the 90's and early 00's, I held some pretty (for the time) far left social views, but at the same time held far right views on economics and trade. I believed in all kinds of gender equality and marriage rights, including gay, polygamy, and polyamory marriages, but at the same time did not see the benefits of globalization and open markets. Over time, my views have adapted to the times, and the times have also adapted to my views. In 2000, I was registered in the Reform Party, and only voted for Gore because Pat Buchanan was too far right socially for my tastes, and I don't even remember if Nader was on the ballot in PA. Even that made feel like I needed a shower.

Last year, I voted for Bernie in the primary for two reasons. I liked his policies more that HRC's, and John Fetterman was one of his delegates. This was also before Russia was in the news every day. Before looking into the Trump campaign, the DNC hacks, and finding out that HRC made Putin pee his pants once.

Horseshoe Theory doesn't explain how Trump won the presidency, but it does explain how one subset of voters could be swayed away from HRC, and possibly to Trump, if properly motivated. There are many players in this tale, and each one has a story to tell, from the trolls in Russia posting on 4Chan to the propagandists pushing stories to Facebook to the frontline soldiers in the information war to the spies on the inside and the lawyers working to bring traitors to justice.

But those are stories for another time.
